I’m not much of figure skating follower, but when I heard that Olympian champ Brian Boitano lives and shops in Russian Hill, I felt a tad star-struck. Boitano, as it turns out, is also skilled in the kitchen, and premieres his very own cooking show, What Would Brian Boitano Make?, on the Food Network this month. Not surprisingly, he finds most of what he needs right near his house:
He frequents Cheese Plus (2001 Polk at Pacific) for gourmet items, Real Foods for his everyday groceries (2140 Polk at Broadway), and rice pudding joint Loving Cup (2356 Polk at Pacific) for his usual treat of frozen yogurt mixed with berries.
For meats and seafood, he cops to venturing to the Marina and Laurel Village. Since Real Foods (shown above) does have a limited selection of those menu essentials, I’ll let that slide.
The funnest part of this news tidbit is the sneak peek trailer for Boitano’s new series. In the video, he cruises Polk in a red sequined, one-piece skating pantsuit, passing local landmark the Alhambra Theater (slash Crunch) and La Boulange, and stopping by the Loving Cup, Cole Hardware, Russian Hill Bookstore, and some other spots. To see it,
What would Brian Boitano Make? debuts this Sunday, August 23 on the Food Network at 1pm EDT. And I’ll be watching.
