Students, please welcome a new shopping destination to the neighborhood. Her name is Thread Lounge (2325 Polk Street at Union), and she transferred here all the way from Hayes Valley. Thread Lounge sells sample pieces and excess stock from small independent designers at greatly discounted prices.
The inventory is very neatly arranged on racks and tables, and includes good quality pieces for men, women, and children. You’ll find gear for all seasons and occasions, from yoga gear and jeans to evening dresses and winter coats. There’s lots to love, but I imagine it’s also hit or miss. Today, I hit.
The shopkeeper (maybe the owner?) tells me that Thread Lounge is taking a trial run in this location. They didn’t do much PR for themselves, so it’s been a little slow. And she also seems partial to Hayes Valley. But I have a feeling once all those Union Street girls come a knockin’, they’ll be here to stay. Get it while it’s hot, kids!
