About a year ago, it was announced that CVS would buy Longs Drugs Stores for a small fee of $2.9 billion. We’re finally seeing that news bit come to life on the edge of Russian Hill with the grand opening of CVS at 2025 Van Ness Ave (at Pacific). Growing up on the East Coast, I developed an odd loyalty to CVS, so I’m happy to see it take over, in my mind, a lesser brand and bring its presence out West. Does anyone share a similar sense of pharmacy loyalty? It’s a strange thing. Truth be told, I’ll be sticking with Walgreens for my pharmaceuticals; I love my ritual Polk Street walk and daily dose of panhandler compliments too much to leave. There’s nothing like hearing, “I hate to see you go, beautiful, but I love to see you walk away,” to put a bothered smile on your face.
So Long Longs, Welcome CVS
