A friend of a friend’s cat was killed by a coyote at Hyde and Greenwich this morning. “Sounds ridiculous, but true,” as he put it. Welcome to the wild, wild West! The Chronicle actually covered the attack too, but of course in proper journalistic form said the coyote is only “a suspect” — did you know the “innocent until proven guilty” rule applies to wild dogs, too?
CBS noted an uptick in coyote sightings a couple months ago, which the SF Animal Care and Control spokesperson actually discredited, saying there haven’t been any more sightings than usual, so who knows. But animal control did warn that the animals reside “in any sustainable area in the city, any sizable park.” George Sterling Memorial Park (at Hyde and Greenwich) is one of these, and there was actually a notice posted there warning locals of the danger. So be careful folks. Seal up your garbage cans securely and keep your pets indoors at night — even if you own a roadrunner.

That’s Joseph Beuys in the 60’s doing a performance piece in NY. Great visual for this story!
