To celebrate its fifth anniversary, Russian Hill’s New American eatery Luella (1896 Hyde at Green) is offering wine by the glass for only $5 Sunday through Thursday throughout the month of March. Seeing as the restau’s most wallet-friendly glass of wine goes for $8, this is definitely a good deal. Better yet, you can scoop up this deal whether you’re in the dining room or in the bar — forget eating, let’s booze! Will I see you there mañana?

Bye Bye Bacchus?

I have it on good authority that Bacchus Wine and Sake Bar (1954 Hyde St. at Union), i.e. the shoebox-sized pre-Sushi Groove drink-while-you-wait spot, has had a change of ownership. I’m not sure whether the contemporary speakeasy, which has only six bar seats, no website, and not even a sign, will remain as is or change form or name. But if it does, I will venture to guess that few will notice. Hopefully, though, the wine will keep flowing and there will be good things to come. I don’t make reservations, and I’ve usually got time to kill before I get my Sushi Groove on.
